Being a young person in 2026 comes with unique pressures. The constant presence of social media, rising levels of emotionally based school avoidance, and growing academic and social expectations all contribute to increased struggles with mental health.
This doesn’t just affect young people — it impacts families too. As a parent or carer, it can be incredibly difficult to know how to support your child when they’re struggling. You're not alone, and the right support can make a real difference

Gillian has been a qualified children and young people's counsellor since 2023, with over a decade of experience working with children in various settings. She understands first-hand what life is like in schools, what young people are facing, and why so many are finding it hard to cope.
Counselling allows young people to speak openly with someone who isn’t emotionally involved — and that alone can make a big difference.

Every child who comes to Counselling With Gillian is treated as an individual. Building a trusting relationship is at the heart of the work. Using a variety of tools — such as art, play, or simply talking — Gillian supports each young person in exploring what’s going on for them. Together, they work out what’s needed to help them move forward.
With over a decade of experience working with children, including more than two years providing dedicated counselling support within school settings, Gillian brings extensive knowledge and practical expertise to her work with young people. She has a strong understanding of the emotional, social, and developmental challenges children may face and responds with a compassionate, professional, and child-centred approach.
Gillian is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where pupils feel heard, understood, and empowered to develop resilience and emotional wellbeing. Her therapeutic work focuses on building trust, strengthening emotional regulation, and promoting positive self-esteem to support both personal and academic growth.
Gillian's experience within educational settings enables her to work collaboratively with school staff and parents, ensuring consistent, holistic, and effective support for each child. For further information or to discuss how Gillian can support the wellbeing of your pupils, please get in touch.
